Share Internet with Three Win2K8 PC's using ICS Problem: My D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router just up and croaked and it's only about a year and half old. I directly connected my Web and DNS server to the cable modem and changed my host IP to the external IP that my ISP allots to me. I changed my A records for www and my server name in DNS and now my web presence is back up and running. Don't really know if you need to do this next part but I did by following these next two articles:Lan Router Running Rip on Win2K8
Install DHCP Role on Win2K8
- I created a LAN router running RIP between my adapter A and adapter B on PC 1
- In the share tab of the property sheet for adapter A on PC 1 I checked the box next to share internet connection
- In the share tab of adapter A I selected the drop down list and chose to share my internet connection with adapter B on PC 1
- This immediately created an IP address of 192.168.0.1 on adapter B (Think gateway but don't get too comfortable)
- I connected PC 1 adapter B to adapter A on PC 2 running Win2K8
- PC 2 is set to use DHCP and I see it gets an internet connection
- I did an ipconfig /all on PC 2 and notated the IP address, gateway, MAC address, and DNS information
- I open the property sheet for adapter A on PC 2 and give it a static address and bind it to my local DNS server and search domain
- I connected adapter B on PC 2 to adapter A on PC 3 running Win2K8
- On PC 3 I have an IP address that is on the same network as PC 2 192.168.0.X and I have the same DNS server and search domain as well
- On PC 2 I bridge adapter A to adapter B
- On PC 3 I see I now have an internet connection
- Rule of Thumb: When routing to other computers and using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing, make sure the computer you're routing to does not activate ICS as well to route to more computers (instead bridge the computer's adapters).
