Hi Everybody,

I got an assignment as a technical consultant for a firm in San Francisco.  The way I was able to get it is that my client's one and only system administrator had to leave the country immediately and they needed to find someone fast that they knew was technically proficient. They asked if I could come in right away to get a pass down  session in with the system administrator before he left.

Everything went well. I feel very confident that the environment is well within my technical capabilities. So far I have only gotten an email account and I was told to wait to hear back from the boss. When she needs someone to go to the data center and physically work with the equipment she will call me and I will respond. What I really like about this opportunity is that it's highly replicable.

With a few more gigs like this that I can do from home I am well on my way to establishing MJ12net as a legitimate consulting firm. I've had this idea for a long time. My last few jobs were done mostly from home and I was thinking at all of them that if it was OK with my employer and there wasn't a conflict of interest I could handle another couple of assignments simultaneously.

Obviously you want to be careful doing that as you can over extend yourself and you can possible ruin established relationships if your lack of availability causes you to miss a critical issue. But if after careful research my bandwidth matches my workload when having several consulting positions at once I will be well on my way to financial solvency.

Thanks for reading,
Brian
